I bought this to make caramel. I’ve never made candy before so this was all new to me. The only thing I didn’t like is that the glass got foggy and I couldn’t read the temp without angling the thermometer. I was hoping to not touch it due to potential burn risk.I did however, appear to be accurate because the caramel turned out perfectly.I was skeptical based on the price, however I was pleasantly surprised. This easy to read candy thermometer allowed me to make a perfect batch of candy apples - my grandchildren enjoyed them.I bought 2. The first one stopped at 325 and wouldn’t go any higher-burned my food, so I knew it was off. I opened the second one, and it seemed to work great. I did not burn the next batch of food, and it did go past the 325 mark.I bought a few of these and they work as they're supposed to! Only thing that would make them better is if they came with cases so they were safer when in storage. But overall great thermometersHad no problems with this candy thermometer made fudge and it worked perfectly.I initially though my thermometer was off by 5°C / 8°F, and since the printed cardboard with the numbers on it is glued to the inner glass tube, there was no way to recalibrate it. However, while I was writing this review, I did a bit of additional research and it turns out that the thermometer was right and I was wrong; My mistake was thinking that water always boils at 100°C or 212°F but I discovered that this is greatly affected by altitude. In my case, I’m in Guadalajara Mexico, and my elevation is approximately 1544 m / 5065 ft. So according to this chart I found online, water should boil at 95°C or 203°F and my reading was spot on ? So 5 stars for the product and the education I got… Hope this helps someone else out thereThe clasp on the side does not stay in place making it hard to stick on the side of the pot.Easy to use, easy to read once you positioned it just right. Will use for all my candy making.I purchased these during the Covid scare where thermometers (for seeing if you have a flu) were sold out so the genius in me decided to buy a cooking one. Well, these were around x10 larger than I expected. If I had a banana for scale I'd say these are similar in size to a full grown banana. Not pleasant to sticking it inside oneself for temp measurements.FYI, do not use for checking your own temp. This is only good if you're keeping something a steady temperature. If you're trying to watch the rise of temperature in something like chocolate or candy, it is so slow that by the time it reads the temp you're looking for, the food is already fifteen to twenty degrees higher than what is showing.Use this for my business for candles and wax. It’s the most accurate one I’ve used. The only downfall is I’ve gone through a few because I broke them, my own fault. It is very good, accurate and precise. The only issue I have with it is that the metal tip does not appear to be the most sturdy and mine is already moving a tiny bit. I have used it multiple times and it does not seem to be an problem, but it does not inspire confidence. For the price, it is excellent.I can't attach it to the side of the pot well and it's a pain to have to hold it but otherwise it works well
