Description
Product Description Candy and jelly cooking requires accurate temperature measurement for perfect, repeatable results. Thermometer is made of stainless steel for durability and bottom of glass column is enclosed and has plastic handle. The durable laboratory glass has non-mecuric column that measures in °F and °C scales. Candy stage temperatures are marked in color codes. The adjustable sliding kettle clip secures thermometer for any size pot. 100°F - 400°F range in 2° F increments. 12\" overall length. Amazon.com Turn out perfect candies, jelly, and caramelized sugar with this stove-top thermometer by CDN. Made of stainless steel with durable laboratory glass, the thermometer precisely measures temperature with a non-mercuric column in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, from 75 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (25 to 200 degrees Celsius). Excellent also at monitoring hot oil for deep frying doughnuts, onion rings, and other foods, the thermometer can be attached firmly to the side of any size fry vat or candy pan with its stainless-steel clip, while the plastic handle stays cool to the touch. Highlighted sections of the thermometer show the best temperatures for different candy stages, specifically thread, soft ball, firm ball, hard ball, soft crack, hard crack, and caramel. An exclusive safety shield at the bottom protects the glass bulb from breakage. Measuring 12 inches in length, the thermometer should be allowed to cool before carefully washed by hand, and should never be placed on a cool surface when hot. A five-year warranty covers the thermometer against defects.--Ann Bieri

Great productI graduated with a degree in pastry and bought this for my sugar artistry class and it worked magnificently! It clipped onto the sides of our pots easily and read the temperature perfectly. My chef instructed me to clean them well, wrap it in a paper towel, and keep it in a cardboard tube (i used and old paper towel roll) to ensure that it lasts because apparently these break easily/get water trapped inside and the lifespan is drastically cut down. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because the edges are a bit sharp. It could be related to getting a paper cut if you are not careful with the way you hold it. I never actually got cut because I was ginger with the handling (I like for my belongings to last forever!) so honestly it was fine for everyday use if you want. Would recommend anyone to buy that's looking for a candy or fryer thermometer!I bought this in May to make macaroons and it evolved into French fries, fried chicken, frostings. Today while trying to fry sesame balls, I heard what sounded like a pop and when I looked at the thermometer I saw the red line interrupted and not looking normal. I picked it up and saw some glass shards in my oil and the thermometer was broken. Sad.. Lasted about 4 months, one of which I was too sick to use it. Need to find a more durable replacement. We use for making caramels. Is very accurate! Over time (lots of time/cleanings), the numbers start to rub off and the black handle has broken off hence buying again but so worth it to keep replacing versus buying other thermometers. No other has compared!Used it for making fudge. It turned out better than when we used our old thermometerI use whenever I make candy or deep fry, which isn't that often, but often enough that having a good thermometer is quite handy. And this is good. I like the little markings that signify the different candy stages, and it certainly is reliable based on the results of the candy I've made. But...the little clip that attaches to the pan could have been made much differently. While it does grip to the pan I typically use, it does scratch it a little, and if it comes off after cleaning it's a pain to get back on. It just doesn't seem to fit correctly into the grooves on the rear of the thermometer. Regardless, I'm happy with this thermometer. I just wish the clip were better. After reading many reviews on electric thermometers and calibration and accuracy issues, I went old-school.This thermometer is easy-to-read...and each time after I use it, I soak it in warm water first before I wash it...this way, I won't be scrubbing off any of the lines or coloring. Does the job for what I need it to do.Looks easy to read and has helpful hintsIf like me you are partial to cooking your own prawn crackers or spring rolls you will see that they have to be cooked in a deep fryer or a wok. I used to cook mines in the deep-fryer and the oil would get burned each time (had to turn the fryer up to MAX each time). After a few times I had to clean the whole fryer and replace 3.5 ltrs of oil. Not cheap !!This thermometer allows me to deep fry crackers in a wok using only 1+3/4 cup of oil. Regulating the temp as per the thermometer. I can then let the oil cool and store it. The 3.5 ltrs in the deep-fryer meanwhile lasts for ages just doing the odd portion of chips. It also has printed settings for making your own candy - havent tried making that yet.Great service from these guys re delivery and packaging and a great price for a kitchen instrument that has a 5 year guarantee!!The thermometer is fairly accurate, I put it into a pan of water & brought it up to the boil, it was just under the 100deg C when the water was boiling. What really concerns me is that it is so difficult to clean. I wanted it to test the temperature of fudge. The fudge gets in around the tube at the base of the thermometer and there it stays even though I put the thermometer into a pan of boiling water to try to get it out. How can something which is sold as suitable for making sweets be so poorly designed? Needless to say I'm not using it .It is a great thermometer and Works perfectly well. However I am a bit desapointed about its size. It is too tall and it can fall while you are boiling sugar with this inside. As soon as the bubbles appears, the thermometer keeps falling out the sauce pan and you must either hold it or use a huge sauce pan to avoid it falling out.Looks good but as I'm giving it as part of a Christmas present, it's not for me to pass judgement!Works well.
